• The theme of the conference is 6 ways to get out of the deadlock, the most difficult stage of negotiation
Prague/Zurich, 5.10.2021 — Swiss Zurich will welcome extremely interesting guests on Thursday, October 7th. The two-day annual conference brings together the world's leaders in the field of negotiation. Professional negotiators from the police, FBI, CIA, as well as participants in complex political and peace negotiations will share their experience with each other in order to advance and develop negotiating strategies and tactics. The main theme of this year's N-Conference is the impasse. Only one person from the Czech Republic will participate in the conference and its panel discussions — Radim Parík, a professional strategic negotiator and member of the prestigious world club of negotiators.
“An impasse is a tactic used by negotiators when all information has already been exchanged and all options have been explored, yet the counterparty does not show willingness to cooperate or is even ready to withdraw from the negotiations,” explains Radim Parik. “The impasse is one of the most difficult stages of the negotiation. That is why, together with other colleagues, politicians, police negotiators or FBI experts, we are developing ways to break the impasse,” he adds.
The topic of the impasse on the first day of the N-Conference will be given by Matthias Schranner, professional negotiator and main organizer of the conference. Among the invited guests and speakers are former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, former top tennis player and Grand Slam tournament winner Martina Hingis and former United States Secretary of State John Kerry. Each year, the conference brings together more than 200 participants.
Six ways of getting out of the dead end will be introduced in stages in presentations and discussed in individual panels. “They are empathy as a way to understand the motive of the counterparty, a back channel to search and test the options not yet found, non-agreement and the possibility of increasing its price, leaving the negotiation as a tactical move, mediation to seek common goals and solutions, and war as a way back to the negotiating table,” explains Radim Parík, who works with police negotiators to train and promote the crisis negotiation.
“Police negotiators are at a dead end in every negotiation. It can't go any further, because the next step would mean the ultimate prize - death. In crisis negotiation, in business or in politics, we also tend to be at an impasse. We are not moving out of place and a no-deal is not an option. Knowing how to find a way out of a dead end is the college of negotiation. You have to be creative, empathetic, consistent, and the counterparty needs to know that a no-deal is more expensive than a deal. A typical example of an impasse was Brexit or the European Union negotiations on vaccines. A dead-end is the type of negotiation we focus on when working for clients in business and in politics. We are dealing with crises,” he added.
In his lifetime, Radim Parik has successfully negotiated more than 2,000 contracts worth tens of billions of crowns. He has completed negotiation training modelled on the US FBI and the Harvard Negotiation Program, and lectures in negotiation at universities in the Czech Republic and the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. As one of the best strategic negotiators in Europe, he also teaches managers to talk, negotiate or influence and lead employees to better results. He also conducts educational courses on the subject. As the only Czech, he is a member of the World Organization of Negotiators. He is active in PR PA RT NE RS Advisory Group s.r.o. and Fascinating Academy. In 2020, he was declared the Personality of Czechoslovak LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/radim-parik).
